Should you fix your Shopify store or start over?
Short answer: most stores should be fixed and customized, not rebuilt. Here's how to tell which camp you're in.
Fix it if…
Your products, collections, and customer data are in good shape and the problems are specific: a broken checkout step, an app conflict, a layout bug on mobile, or slow pages.
You like your theme's structure but it looks generic. Custom sections and branding can make a stock theme look one-of-a-kind without migrating anything.
Start over if…
The theme is outdated or abandoned by its developer and no longer supports features you need.
Years of stacked apps and edited theme code make every change break something else, and it costs more to untangle than to rebuild cleanly.
Your business model changed, for example adding subscriptions or wholesale, and the current setup fights it at every step.
Questions to ask before you decide
What exactly is broken, and can it be reproduced? Which apps are installed, and which are still used? Is the theme still maintained? What do you want the store to do in a year that it can't do today?
How we approach it
We start with a diagnosis, explain what's wrong in plain language, and recommend the cheapest path that actually solves the problem. Often that's a fix plus targeted customization. For an example of a stock theme customized into a full brand store, see our Pierced By Ash case study.
